The Structure of the Collaboratory

The founding partners of the SJC are CU Boulder, Fort Lewis College and the Mountain Studies Institute. These three partners are actively engaged in the development of new educational, research and outreach activities in SW Colorado. The long-term vision for the SJC includes close working relationships with federal land management agencies such as the Forest Service and BLM, local non-profits engaged in K-12 outreach such as the Telluride Institute, and increased coordination with federal research laboratories in Boulder such as NOAA. These potential partnerships are already being actively discussed.

The Future of the Collaboratory

Our vision for the SJC is to provide a model for coordination and integration of state public and private institutions to support sustainable economic and environmental development in rural portions of Colorado. The rural communities of Colorado represent an underserved but exceptionally valuable resource for the economic and intellectual development of the State. The SJC is an example of an existing, vibrant initiative that serves both the needs of current Colorado students and a significant step toward implementation of the CU Boulder Flagship 2030 vision.
